Meet my new favorite Melie Bianco bag that I have not been able to put down since I purchased a few weeks back. I’ve changed purses a few times since but every couple of days I circle right back to this beauty. The color is the perfect tangerine orange (the pictures don’t do it justice - not to mention these were all taken with my iPhone) and the structured composition just feels so put together and lady like. The outfit possibilities are endless!

ps: please ignore the wrinkled dress unfortunately this is the result of taking pictures after work when clearly my morning iron job has worn off. Ok fine, who am I kidding this dress never saw an iron. But I swear it didn’t look this wrinkled when I left the house in the morning!

Surprisingly these mustard pants have served me very well since I bought them last fall. You’d think that the color would be limiting but actually they go with almost anything…almost! And well, this shirt has also seen its wear a little more often than I’d like to admit! But I guess that’s the point of buying clothes, right? To wear them over and over each time in a different way. Speaking of, I’m going to be starting a “remix” segment here on thestylebit showing one article of clothing worn several different ways so look out :)

not so mellow yellow

I love how something as simple as a yellow blazer can transform the look of an outfit from drab to fab! The bright yellow was especially necessary on this dreary Friday. These pictures were taken on one of my weekly “date nights” with my dear old bean Christelle (yes, we call each other beans, a nickname we picked up in college and haven’t left behind since!) After work we decided to head to Bryant Park for a nice little stroll and stopped to take these shots in front of the New York Public Library. Afterwards,we had a lovely dinner before calling it a night! A perfect date night with a best friend was the greatest way to end the week.

Pops of Color

The weather in NY these days is so up and down, I can’t even deal. The only way I know how to keep my spirits up is by wearing lots of pops of color! This day was actually mildly warm, which explains the bare legs but these photos were also taken early last week and since then the sunshine has made minimal appearances.

Getting back to the outfit, I really like how the striped blazer kind of balances out all of the colors going on. To be honest, I don’t find that there is much that stripes don’t compliment. Anyone else with me?

Christmas Combo

This color combo was not intentional, I had actually been wearing this little mini tote for a few days prior and in my usual morning rush didn’t have time to switch purses. At first I wasn’t really thrilled with the “Christmas” combo but looking back at the pictures I actually don’t think it looked so bad. My favorite part of this outfit is definitely the necklace which I scored at forever 21 a few months back! That store can be so hit or miss but this was definitely a jewel of a find. Get it? Hah!

The last picture below is the result of my friend attempting to take a candid shot of me walking across the street, to no avail. Everyone who knows me knows that I’ve never been good with candid shots. Whenever I see a camera pointed in my direction my instinct is to stop and smile. So I did not really caring that a cab was coming in my direction. Of course at that precise moment the camera wouldn’t snap the picture leaving me awkwardly standing in the middle of the street waiting for the flash to go off while the cab driver is honking up a storm ready to run me over and angry pedestrians are trying to walk around me. You can totally see it all on my face. Everything about this picture screams awkward and posed for a shot that was supposed to be natural and candid! From my stance, to my smile, I can only imagine what my eyes must have looked like beneath the dark shades. Ahh the things I do for fashion…and a ~~good~~ photo!

Polka dots are like my stripes. I love them in all shapes, colors and sizes. I think they add just the right amount of punch to an outfit and they always feel very ladylike. I also am very much enjoying the top knot trend. It is the perfect solution for bad/lazy hair days, which if I’m being honest, happen quite often for me especially now since my hair is in an awkward middle stage. I don’t know whether I should cut it again and go shorter or let it grow out. Fair warning, you’ll be seeing the top knot ALOT in posts to come so don’t judge! I’ll also probably be throwing in some polkas here and there.

The picture below was my favorite of the bunch, it feels very retro to me. ps: how much are you loving my yellow nail polish? It was only $1.99! I die.

What you are seeing right here is a milestone. It was the first day of this year that I stepped outside with no tights AND open toed shoes. double whammy. I was a happy happy girl basking in the warm 80 degree sunshine. And what better way to celebrate the warm weather then to wear yellow! I’ve honestly never been much of a yellow girl but for some reason every time I walk into a store I’m immediately drawn to any shade of the color and more often then not walk out with something in the yellow family. Neon, pastel, mustard, you name it. My collection is quickly growing and I can’t say I’m mad at it.

As I’m sure we’ve all seen by now, along with neon and pastels, florals are everywhere this season. Honestly I think florals are just a spring season staple and not necessarily a SS12 trend but this particular spring I’m all about the floral print trousers and it was quite a mission to find the perfect pair.

These one’s were my first attempt, and while I do like them they just weren’t exactly what I was looking for but for the $15 price point I couldn’t pass them up. I’ve actually already gotten some good use out of them. This was the second time I wore them and since then, I’ve worn them one other time. Hmm, possible remix post? Ideas swirling in my head… anyway, luckily a few days after I found these, I snagged the most darling pair from zara and I will most definitely show them in a future post.

On this day, I couldnt find a shirt to wear with them that was office appropriate so I decided to pair them with my blue cardigan and just wore it backwards. I kind of liked the results of the backwards cardigan and will probably do this more often, especially since it eliminates having to wear a camisole underneath so as not to show too much cleavage. The pretty back detailing is an added bonus!

I love the mauve tones of this outfit. The subtle pink blazer mixed with the leopard print balance each other out nicely in my opinion. Sometimes leopard print can look a bit loud (which, don’t get me wrong, on occasion I love and definitely rock in some of my outfits) but sometimes I like the effect that a more muted color has on leopard print, toning it down and making it seem almost more elegant. At least as elegant as leopard print can possibly get.

And for a nice pop of color, a little dab of pink lipstick goes a long way.

These pictures were taken awhile back when it was still chilly in NYC and flowers still hadn’t started blooming. It was kind of rainy and gray outside so I decided to throw on this bright red coat to brighten up my day. Color always does it for me and as I’ve mentioned before, so does a good deal! I found this coat in one of my trips to the Buffalo Exchange for $29! There it was sitting pretty on the rack and in my size no less. How could I pass it up? That’s right, I couldn’t. It was meant to be.

I know that in color theory purple and green are not considered complimentary colors but in Christina’s world of fashion, they are indeed. They also both happen to be my favorite colors and I think they pair rather nicely together. I added a dose of leopard print (via my flats) to spice things up a bit. I was wearing my leopard print wedges for most of the day but had to give my little feet a rest. I’m sure the wedges will make an appearance in due time :)

There’s something about floral and lace mixed with flowy skirts that give off a flirty vibe. Its simple and feminine without trying too hard. I live in skirts and dresses when the weather is warm so expect lots more flirty outfits in the coming Spring and Summer months.

I definitely didn’t realize until typing up this post that I’m donned almost completely head to toe in h&m. Kind of interesting but just goes to show you that you don’t have to spend a lot to look and feel great! I’m pretty sure the cost of this entire outfit (minus the shades and shoes) is less than $50! I was never any good with numbers but this is simple addition. GO ME…my bank account is thanking me!

Another Jewelmint piece to display. I swear I do wear other jewelry, it’s just that my current favorites all seem to be from there these days. Anyway, I got this bracelet as a free gift with another purchase I had made. Originally when I saw the bracelet online I liked the antique look the circle had but I had no idea that it had this quote on the other side of it. I really love this touch especially because it’s from one of my favorite quotes by Mahatma Gandhi : “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” I truly believe every word of this.

On a sidenote: I started watching the Vampire Diaries on Netflix, a direct result of my absolute boredom last Sunday afternoon. Needless to say I have been hooked ever since and it’s sort of kind of been consuming all of my free time, hence the absence here on the blog. I’m finally all caught up and very sad that I now have to wait until Thursday for a new episode but on the bright side you can expect more frequent posts :)

Just some snapshots of an afternoon stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge with my cousin. The weather was beautiful, the surroundings even more so and the company could not have been better.

Trusty Look

Another casual Friday outfit post. If im being serious - this outfit - or some variation of it is pretty much my staple go to look. Denim or more recently colored denim (more on my obsession with that in a later post), a basic top and a blazer over to polish out the look. It looks put together but doesn’t take too much effort to think through in the morning. On Friday’s especially I find this combination particularly useful since my brain is a little fuzzy and on “all I can think about is getting through the day and then my weekend finally starts” mode.

I did tell you all I like my weekends, right?

Sorry for the picture overload, I had a hard time choosing which pictures to post so I pretty much posted them all. You can never have too many pictures of a pretty sparkly clutch right? These were taken on the day last week that we had strangely warm temperatures in New York for early March. I’m talking almost 70’s! In all reality, we’ve had a strangely warm winter this year if you can really call it a winter at all.
